A panel discussion on the topic “The political economy of farmer’s suicide in India “ was organized by the students of 3rd EPS on 8th July 2019 as part of the activity at the department. The discussion was steered by three panelists, Anirudh, Jammy, and Monce and moderated by Gursharanjeet. The moderator set the tone for the discussion by introducing the common problems of farmers in the state of Punjab. Among the panelists, Jammy started the discussion by stating the statistical information on farmer’s suicides and state-wise performance of agriculture. Following that, Monce emphasized the history of agrarian crisis and problems of the agricultural sector in the present context. The last panelist, Anirudh Bhardwaj highlighted the core economic issues and infrastructural problems. The forum was later open for questions in order to make it more open and interactive. The session was formally concluded after effective and informative interaction.
